The top 10 jerseys of Paris Saint Germain

Social

Paris Saint-Germain is now the undisputed best team in France. Although Paris Saint-Germain is only half a century old, the Paris Saint-Germain team has worn a stunning array of kits.

Their history has seen some great kits be seen in the French capital, including the iconic ‘Hechter Shirt’ design still in use today. Although Paris Saint-Germain’s home kit is constantly being tweaked and changing, it remains true to three colors: blue and red for the city of Paris, and traditional white for the suburbs of Saint-Germain. All of these are tributes to the city’s hometown.

In honor of Paris Saint-Germain, I will briefly introduce the top ten shirts of Paris Saint-Germain, in chronological order.

✧ 1973/1980 – Home by Le Coq Sportif

The shirt is Paris Saint-Germain’s first to feature the club’s iconic Hechter design – consisting of a navy jersey with a red central stripe and surrounded by two white lines. This classic Paris Saint-Germain home shirt is definitely one of their best ever, with red stripes on a blue background separated by white pinstripes.
This iconic design was created by French fashion designer Daniel Hechter. His famous shirt design was dubbed the “Hechter Shirt”, a look that still forms the basis of Paris Saint-Germain’s kits decades later.

✧ 1981/1982 – Home by Le Coq Sportif

The white jersey with the blue and red belt has been Paris Saint-Germain’s classic away kit for decades, but it was used as a home kit in the 1980s. Between 1988 and 1993, Paris Saint-Germain used the white jersey as their home jersey. Paris Saint-Germain 1981-1982 classic white home jersey with a large polo collar and stylish red/blue ribbon.
French manufacturer Le Coq Sportif designed an excellent kit that was used for four consecutive seasons. The reason is obvious, this jersey is amazing. The white collar looks stunning on a white shirt and allows the two-tone stripes to really stand out.

✧ 1990/1991 – Away by Nike

In 1989, Nike officially became a technical sponsor of Paris Saint-Germain. Thus began a partnership that lasted 30 years. On the occasion of the second season, this masterpiece like a painting appeared. It’s like a white canvas depicting the Eiffel Tower with huge red and blue brushstrokes. In any case, the classic of this jersey is unquestionable.

✧ 1993/1994 – Home by Nike

If you ask me which jersey was the most unusual uniform of the 90s, the 1993/1994 home jersey must be on the list. The base color of the jersey that year was blue, and the red vertical stripes were symmetrical and varied in size. That year Ginola, Weah, Lama, and Bravo’s team won the French league title for the second time.

✧ 1995/1996 – Home by Nike

As you can see, this jersey also features the club’s signature Hechter design. The club wore this jersey in the 1995-96 Cup Winners’ Cup, and it went well, the club’s first and most important international title,
The Hechter design of this jersey is perfect, as its shade of blue and red stripes are just the right thickness. Together with the red and blue collar at the top of the jersey, this jersey is an absolute masterpiece. In the 1995/96 season, Paris Saint-Germain won two trophies in this beautiful jersey.

✧ 2001/2002 – Home by Nike

Three reasons why I have to include this jersey on the list:

  • The vertical red band moves to the left;
  • A specific collar;
  • And what was then Ronaldinho‘s (wearing No. 21) first season at Paris Saint-Germain.

The PSG 02-03 home shirt worn by Ronaldinho after the 2002 World Cup was inspired by the early 1980s and the club’s traditional home shirts. This jersey is definitely a must-see in a collector’s wardrobe.

✧ 2009/2010 – Home by Nike

This 2009/2010 PSG home kit is one of PSG’s more unique kits, as it doesn’t follow a traditional look. The red pinstripes look harmonious but unique against the dark blue background, giving the jersey a clean and crisp feel on and off the pitch.
Paris Saint-Germain won their eighth French Cup that season. At the time, Paris Saint-Germain met Monaco in the final at the Stade de France. A tense final went into extra time, with Paris Saint-Germain winning in the 105th minute.

✧ 2011/2012 – Home by Nike

What a beautiful jersey! This 2011/12 home jersey is one of many good-looking jerseys designed by Nike with a thick red band in the middle. The PSG badge and Nike logo in the center of the jersey are very eye-catching and harmonious with the overall appearance of the jersey.

✧ 2012/2013 – Home by Nike

Although PSG’s home kit is blue, it seems that the trend in Paris Saint-Germain kit design is to minimize the presence of red and white. Instead, use the dominant red as the main color of the away kit. This shirt is “the one worn by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he left an indelible mark in his first season at Paris Saint-Germain”.

The jersey features a Nike stencil, and the modern styling on the red belt looks glorious on the pitch. Still with blue as the base color, red looks beautiful on the blue jersey. Wearing the jersey, they won a record ninth trophy, beating Monaco 4-0 in Shenzhen, China.
